About Me

Katabalwa Yunus is a passionate social development practitioner, humanitarian, and child
welfare advocate with over a decade of experience in community development, child
protection, youth empowerment, and nonprofit leadership in Uganda.

Mr. Katabalwa dedicated his early career to supporting vulnerable children and underserved
communities through various charitable and humanitarian initiatives. From 2011 to 2015, he
served as Director of Children's Home of Hope Uganda, a charitable foundation that
provided care, protection, education support, healthcare, and psychosocial services to more
than 600 Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) across Uganda. During his tenure, he
led programs aimed at improving children's welfare, strengthening community support
systems, and mobilizing resources to address the needs of disadvantaged children and
families.

In addition to his leadership role, he volunteered with ACT International, where he
contributed to community outreach and development initiatives that positively impacted the
lives of vulnerable households in Rakai District. Through this work, he gained firsthand
experience in addressing poverty, youth challenges, and community development needs at the
grassroots level.

Recognizing the growing challenges facing orphaned children, unemployed youth, and
vulnerable families, Mr. Katabalwa founded Fight For The Future Foundation Ltd
(FIFFO) in 2017. Under his leadership, FIFFO has grown into a community-based charitable
organization committed to improving the lives of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs),
empowering youth with practical livelihood skills, supporting education, and promoting
sustainable community development.

Today, Katabalwa Yunus leads FIFFO's strategic vision and operations, overseeing programs
that support children's education, youth economic empowerment, vocational skills
development, and community resilience. His work is driven by a strong belief that every child
deserves an opportunity to thrive and that empowering young people with skills and
opportunities is key to breaking cycles of poverty.

Through his dedication, leadership, and commitment to social transformation, Mr. Katabalwa
continues to champion initiatives that create lasting positive impact for vulnerable
communities across Uganda, particularly in Kampala, Rakai, and Kyotera districts.

My Story

I was born on November 12, 1992, in Kampala, Uganda, in a family of five siblings.

At the age of five, I tragically lost my father. I had just begun my schooling, and my other siblings were also at relatively young ages. My father, the family’s breadwinner, passed away unexpectedly, causing a sudden and overwhelming shift in our lives. To complicate matters, my father had multiple wives and children from other unions. Following his death, his relatives falsely accused my mother of causing his death and claimed that she, along with her children, were a disgrace to the family. As a result, we were cruelly ostracized and forcibly removed from our home.

Our lives were upended as we were thrown onto the streets with nothing. With no financial support, we were left stranded and helpless. We were unable to attend school during this time, as survival became our immediate priority. My mother, despite her grief, sought help from friends, moving from house to house in search of assistance. At one point, due to my young age, my three older siblings were taken in by one of my mother’s friends, while my younger sister, Rukia, and I continued to stay in different homes, still in search of support.

Over the years, my childhood was marked by uncertainty and hardship. I slept in various places—sometimes in churches, sometimes at friends' homes, but we could never stay long. I witnessed my mother’s struggles, often seeing her in tears, filled with sorrow. Despite the severe challenges, we persisted, with only the grace of God carrying us through. For many years, none of our father’s relatives came to our aid, leaving us to fend for ourselves.

When I was nearly 11, my mother found employment at an animal drug shop, which allowed her to begin rebuilding our lives and re-enroll us in school. However, due to financial struggles, we could only attend school intermittently, never able to fully participate due to the lack of resources.

In 2010, I joined a charity organization, driven by a desire to give back to disadvantaged children, as I deeply related to their struggles. I worked with the organization for two years until it ceased operations. During that time, I helped provide support to children in need and began preaching the gospel with a small group of women, many of them single mothers. Together, we went door-to-door in Kabojja, Kampala, sharing hope and support with those facing similar challenges.

Inspired by my experiences, I founded my own organization with the mission to advocate for the rights of widowed single mothers and orphaned children. The foundation, named Fight for the Future, embodies my belief that the future is something worth fighting for. Through this organization, I aim to empower those with similar backgrounds and stories, offering them the chance to build a better future, just as I once hoped for in my own life.
